Adaptation of Act 3, Scene 5. The scene opens in a dorm room in Hurley. Juliet and Romeo are sat on Juliet's bed. Her head rests on his shoulder. Both are asleep. A laptop rests on Romeo's thighs.
(Juliet sits up and stretches, waking up Romeo)
Romeo: Good morning. (smiles and kisses Juliet. She blushes.)
Juliet: Nooo. Go back to sleep; it's still early.
Romeo: No it's not. Look at the light coming through the window.
Juliet: (With her eyes closed, reaches over to place a hand over Romeo's eyes) I don't see any light. Actually, I think it's pretty dark in here. (burrows into bed)
Romeo: (laughs) OK, OK. I'll stay. (He closes his eyes. Juliet sits up abruptly)
Juliet: Oh God. What time is it?! (scrambles for phone) You have to go! My family's coming today and you know if they find you, they'll tell Mr. Dykeman that you broke your probation.
Romeo: But you said we should go back to sleep. (Burrows into Juliet's bed. Juliet jumps up and then shakes his shoulders)
Juliet: Get up!
Romeo: I'm up. (Romeo gets up and heads toward window. He opens it) Good night Juliet. (They kiss)
Juliet: Good morning Romeo. (He leaves. Juliet shuts the window)
(Enter Nancy)
Nancy: Is you boy toy gone yet?
Juliet: He's not my boy toy, Nance.
Nancy: Mmhm. Sure. Mom's going to be here soon.
Juliet: (throws herself on the bed) Ugh. (pause) I miss him already.
Nancy: (sits on bed and places hand on Juliet's back) I know.
(There's a knock on the door. Enter Mrs. Capulet)
Mrs. Capulet: Hello girls. How are you holding up Juliet?
Juliet: I'm doing OK.
Mrs. Capulet: I know you still must be upset about Terry.
Juliet: (sighs) I can't believe that he got expelled.
Mrs. Capulet: I can't believe that that Montague boy got away with it! This school is not what it used to be. When I went here, criminals wouldn't be suspended.
Juliet: You're right; the situation is inexcusable. It makes me sick to be here.
Mrs. Capulet: That reminds me. I've got some good news. Your father has been so considerate as to find a solution to your unhappiness.
Juliet: Father is too kind.
Mrs. Capulet: At this moment, he's talking to Mr. Dykeman about your transfer.
Juliet: Transfer? What do you mean?(stands up)
Mrs. Capulet: (turns away from Juliet to face Nancy) Nancy would you mind going to get your father for me? Knowing him, he's probably reminiscing about his glory days.
Nancy: (looks at Juliet before hesitantly walking toward the door) Sure. I'll be right back. (she leaves)
Mrs. Capulet: With all that has been going on here, your father and I thought it best that you be removed from such a hostile environment.
Juliet: That's very gracious of you, but-
Mrs. Capulet: Your father has talked to Mr. Brown, the headmaster at Exeter. They are willing to take you on for the second semester.
Juliet: But mom-
Mrs. Capulet: We'll start packing your things right away. It's only two weeks until Christmas break, so I'll bring Nancy up then, and we'll work on moving your things then.
Juliet: Mom-
Mrs. Capulet: It will be such an enriching experience. Have you seen their library, dear? It's quite impressive. Actually, I-
Juliet: (yells) I don't want to got to Exeter!
(Enter Capulet and Nancy)
Capulet: (voice low, but clear) What?
Juliet: Dad, I'm sorry, but I don't want to go to Exeter. I'm grateful for the opportunity, but-
Capulet: What do you mean but?!
Juliet: I just don't think it's the right place for me, but that's not to say I'm not thankful-
Capulet: Not the right place for you? Since when are you too good for Exeter?
Juliet: I'm not saying-
Capulet: How could you be so ungrateful?! I've worked hard to get you this opportunity. Not just anyone goes to Exeter.
Mrs. Capulet: (places hand on her husband' shoulders) Darling, you were just saying how this place makes you sick! Have you already changed your mind?
Juliet: I shouldn't have to leave because of what happened to Terry. (Capulet roughly shakes off Mrs. Capulet's hand)
Capulet: You speak as if you had a choice in the matter. You're going.
Juliet: I'm not.
Capulet: (walks toward Juliet slowly) You will not disgrace this family by saying no to Exeter. You will go or so help me God, you're- you're no longer my daughter!
Nancy: Dad!
Capulet: I'd think long and hard about your decision. (faces Mrs. Capulet) Let's go. (He leaves. Mrs. Capulet reluctantly follows.)
Juliet:(throws herself back onto the bed and begins to cry) I don't want to go.
Nancy: Do you want my advice?
Juliet: You're my sister; of course I do.
Nancy: I think you should go.
Capulet: (from offstage) Nancy!
Juliet: But what about Romeo?!
Nancy: He's just a boy, Julie. Think about the consequences. (kisses her head and walks toward door) I love you. (she leaves)
Juliet: (walks toward mirror and wipes her eyes) I will not leave him.
